About this course

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an English language-based examination similar to GCSE which is recognized in the United Kingdom as being equivalent to the GCSE for the purposes of recognizing prior attainment.  It was developed by the University of Cambridge International Examinations Board. The examination boards, Edexcel and Oxford AQA, also offer their own versions of International GCSEs.

Students normally begin studying the IGCSE syllabus at the beginning of Year 10 and take the test at the end of Year 11.   However, in some cases this may be accelerated – that is, students can begin studying the syllabus at the beginning of Year 9 and may take the test at the end of Year 10.

The qualifications are based on individual subjects of study, which means that one receives an “IGCSE” qualification for each subject one takes. Typical “core” subjects for IGCSE candidates include a First Language, Second Language, Mathematics and one or more subjects in the Sciences.

IGCSE examinations signal the completion of High School education and are designed for students aged 14+ who want to progress on to A-levels, or other international equivalents, before entering university.

Following the rubric discussed earlier, a typical IGCSE Programme includes Mathematics, English, Study Skills, Science, ICT, and either Geography or another Humanities subject. These are studied alongside other possible enrichment courses that may include Citizenship, Physical Education, and the Creative Arts.

The EMBT Academy IGCSE Tutoring Program offers training for both Cambridge and Edexcel formats of the IGCSE curricula.  We provide semester-long tuition for the following core subjects –

• English
• Mathematics (Core & Extended)
• Sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Combined Sciences)
• Humanities (Geography or History)
• ICT / Computer Science

Other IGCSE subjects may be taken to supplement the core subjects listed – these are offered based on demand.   Course fees are indicated per subject, with course durations from 1 – 3 semesters, depending on the mode of study (e.g. Intensive, Standard or Part-Time).

All tutoring sessions are instructor-led, with the classes delivered by expert and experienced instructors.  Our tutors are typically UK or US -qualified Professors and Lecturers, with several years experience of teaching the subject matter.  For those candidates preparing for external examinations and tests, we provide multiple practice test drills, sample question papers, mock tests and simulated exams, to ensure readiness for the assessments and enhanced performance.
