ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care

The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is a 60-credit qualification and is the equivalent level to an A Level or Access to HE qualification. It has been designed for learners who wish to progress to a health and social care degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required.

The course aims to develop an understanding of the health and social care sector, its aims and purpose and the organisations that provide health and social care along with an awareness of current issues impacting the sector in a chosen country.

It also aims to develop an understanding of the key features involved in delivering safe and consistent services in health and social care.  This unit looks at fundamental principles, such as person-centred practice and safeguarding and protection, as well as effective working relationships and communication, that underpin the work of all health and social care workers

The course additionally aims to develop essential academic and research skills required for working in the health and social care sector and to be able to formally present academic research findings, written and orally.

It also develops the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement the care worker’s own personal and professional development for further study or work in the health and social care sector and for future reflective practice.

Learners who complete this qualification can progress to study a bachelor’s degree in a Health/Social Care area, after completing further work at Ofqual levels 4 and 5.

ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Management for Health and Social Care

The ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Management for Health and Social Care is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to the first year of a bachelor’s degree.
This qualification has been designed for learners who are seeking to progress to university to join the second year of a bachelor’s degree course in an area of management within the healthcare sector. As well as the Extended Diploma option (120 credits) there is a Diploma option (60 credits) and a Certificate option (30 credits).

There are three different sized qualifications. If you study the 120-credit extended diploma then you must study all 3 mandatory units and select 5 to 7 optional units. If you study the 60-credit diploma then you must study all 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. The certificate requires you to study the unit “Health and Social Care in Context” plus one of the other two mandatory units.

Learners who complete this qualification can progress to the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management for Health and Social Care which allows entry to the third year of a variety of bachelor’s degrees at higher education institutions.
